Hairline correction is a procedure for males and females who have a congenitally high hairline. The result is a more harmonious balance between the upper and lower thirds of the face. The surgery is performed by removing a small section of forehead skin and repositioning the frontal scalp tissue in the desired location. It is often combined with eyebrow lifting for a more balanced effect. A hairline advancement is a surgical procedure and as such should only be performed by a board certified plastic surgeon who has completed extensive training and credentialing. The ideal patient for a hairline lowering or forehead reduction is a woman who has a congenitally high hairline and does not have significant hair loss. Attempting to lower a low hairline with hair grafting is not only extremely expensive, but it also leads to very unnatural results that in many cases need to be excised later on. Moreover, it is virtually impossible to achieve normal hair density with this type of procedure.
A forehead reduction or hairline lowering procedure is an outpatient surgical procedure that is performed in our AAAHC accredited outpatient surgery center under local anesthesia with IV sedation. This allows for superior operating conditions and minimal risks to the patient.무모증모발이식
Once the patient is comfortably sedated, a mark will be made where the new planned hairline will be. This is done prior to the start of the procedure in order to ensure the best possible results. The plastic surgeon will then make an incision and carefully loosen the hair bearing scalp tissues. The scalp tissues will then be moved in a desired direction and sutured. The incisions are strategically placed to minimize scarring and they are usually well camouflaged upon hair regrowth.
For patients with very high hairlines or very little scalp laxity, a two-stage procedure may be required. This involves placing a tissue expander under the scalp and then completing the hairline lowering procedure once the scalp has been stretched enough. This is typically only necessary in about 10% of our patient population.
